Chicago

Today is Mountain Girl's birthday!!! Happy Birthday MG...HAPPY BIRTHDAY. She reminds me that today is also Bill Kreutzmann's birthday and that they were born on opposite sides of the country! Also born today but eight years earlier, Bobby Peterson, poet and Phil and Jerry's friend from Palo Alto. He wrote a book titled FAR AWAY RADIOS.

Kesey signed and riffed for three hours at Borders Books. Babbs, MG, Swan, Zane, Roy, and Phil signed and traded and riffed and rapped too.The Borders crew were really on it thanks to Robin on the PR side! The crowd, including all of the Borders employees, were decked out in full-tilt-boogie 60s get up including fresh, huge yellow daisies for their hair. We were greeted with nostalgia left and right. There was a long line of anticipating seekers, avid readers and deep thinkers! The house music was vintage Quicksilver, Steve Miller, Van Morrison, Jimi, Janis, the Dead. It felt real nice thank you very nice!

Kesey was met by an old friend whom he helped set up a writing class for children at a local branch of the YMCA. That's right! The Young Mens Christian Association, the good ol' YMCA where we all learned to swim and play and socialize. Kesey paid a visit to the Y building and left a few momentos from the trip. It was a very meaningful thing to visit this classroom because Kesey's assistance occurred twenty years ago and the program is still in existence and shows signs of lasting for a very long time.

The Interactive Bean is one of the nicest CyberCafes we had ever seen. First of all, we arrived there at 4:42pm tired and spent and within just one awesome cup of coffee we were back jammin'-jack-flash. The Zyberjam took a long minute to set up but when the T1 line was connected and pointed at the Bus, the crew was ON mixing video and audio, singing, rapping, talking. Roger was our guy there, a cool dude with more computer equipment than Heinz has pickles. Roger was so wired he had our heads spinning and we had just walked in with a Sun Sparc 5 workstation and 25 inch monitor. Roger was on the development team for System 7.6 at Apple. He dug the 200 megahertz PowerBook 3400c I am typing this on, that's Are We Really? on the right logged at the IBean. The Interactive Bean has ethernet all over the place, connected to a real hot T1 phone line. The art on the walls is modern acrylic impressionism. The coffee alone was worth the Trip!

The Bus refueled then swung back around to pick up the ZyberjamKrewe.

Chicago was very PranKstEr fRiEndlY! Thank you very nice!
